Announcement of an open position at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, Faculty of Physics, Vienna University of Technology
Professorship in Condensed Matter Theory
The applicant is expected to have outstanding academic credentials and a track record of high international visibility in the field of condensed matter theory. Areas of current interest include wavefunction-based methods and electronic structure, structure and dynamics at surfaces, low-dimensional systems, multi-scale modeling, and soft matter. Synergies with and strengthening of the research portfolio of the institute which includes (among others) attoscience, quantum transport, nonlinear dynamics and complex systems, as well as fundamental interactions are desired. We are looking for candidates who are interested in developing close ties with the university-wide research efforts, in particular the FWF funded special research programs “Vienna Computational Materials Laboratory (VICOM)”, “Functional Oxide Surfaces and Interfaces” (FOXSI), “Next Generation Light Synthesis and Interaction (NEXTLITE)”, and the doctoral colleges “Building Solids for Function (Solids4Fun)” and “Complex Quantum Systems (CoQuS)”. Interest in vigorously developing future research networks in the field of condensed-matter physics is desired. A solid track record in attracting external research funding on the national or international level and in interacting with experimental programs is expected. The successful candidate will carry the full teaching load of mandatory as well as of elective courses of the physics curriculum (http://studium.tuwien.ac.at/studien/technische-physik/#ces_c236).
