Assistant Professorship "Soft Matter Theory" at the TU Wien  (Created: 2018-09-18)

Announcement of an Opening at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, Faculty of Physics at Technische Universität Wien (Vienna University of Technology) for an Assistant Professorship (Tenure Track) "Soft Matter Theory" in form of an initially fixed-term (6 years) tenure track position starting from 01.11.2018. The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, it opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract.

The Faculty of Physics invites applications for an Assistant Professorship (tenure track) in Soft Matter Theory with focus on the development and application of suitable numerical methods (i) to  describe and to explain self-assembly scenarios of complex colloidal particles and (ii) to calculate the physical properties of the emerging mesophases.

Synergies with ongoing theoretical research activities at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the TU Wien (, with related scientific groups of other faculties of the TU Wien and of other universities in Vienna are expected. We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated an active interest in collaborations with experimental groups.

Qualification Requirements:

The successful candidate is expected to be an internationally recognized scientist with a PhD in theoretical physics and an excellent track record, as documented by scientific contributions published in high-ranking international journals as well as by successful applications within  highly competitive funding programs (such as the ERC- or the START-program). We furthermore expect the candidate’s expertise in successful funding activities.

An adequate contribution to the compulsory teaching activities within the Faculty of Physics is expected, which – after an appropriate transition period – should be given in German.

  • a list of publications,
  • invited lectures,
  • a statement on extramural funding
  • teaching records if applicable,
